Phantom vs Solflare which Solana wallet is better
Two wallets dominate the Solana ecosystem. Phantom and Solflare are both non-custodial, both free, and both have browser extensions and mobile apps. But they are not the same, and which one you should use depends entirely on what you do with Solana.
Browser extension and mobile app quality
Phantom’s browser extension is polished, loads fast, and the interface is clean. The mobile app mirrors the extension closely. Swapping tokens, viewing NFTs, and checking balances feel smooth on both platforms.
Solflare’s extension is also solid, though it feels slightly more utilitarian. The mobile app offers the same core functions. Neither wallet crashes often, and both support multiple Solana accounts within one installation.
Edge: Phantom for design polish. Solflare for users who prefer function over form.
Ledger hardware wallet integration
Both wallets support Ledger devices. The experience differs.
Phantom connects to a Ledger through its extension. You can sign transactions with the hardware device, and the process works reliably. But Phantom does not support Ledger staking directly from its interface; you must stake through a separate staking provider.
Solflare treats Ledger integration as a primary feature. You can stake SOL from a Ledger wallet inside Solflare. This matters if you keep your SOL on a hardware device and want to earn staking rewards without moving funds to a hot wallet. Solflare also supports multi-signature setups with Ledger.

Staking interface usability
Staking is a core Solana activity. Both wallets let you stake SOL to validators.
Phantom’s staking interface is simple: you pick a validator from a list, see estimated APY, confirm, and it works. But the validator list is curated, and you cannot search for specific validators by name or address easily.
Solflare offers a more complete staking experience. You can search validators, see performance metrics, and stake to any validator on the network. Solflare also shows your staking rewards history. The interface is busier but more powerful.

NFT display
Both wallets display NFTs in a grid and support image, video, and audio formats.
Phantom’s NFT view is cleaner. It groups collectibles by collection, you can hide spam NFTs, and the mobile app displays NFTs well.
Solflare’s NFT view works and shows metadata, but it does not group by collection as neatly and spam filtering is less effective.

Transaction simulation and security
Both wallets now simulate transactions before you sign. This is critical: it shows you exactly what a transaction will do and catches malicious dApps.
Phantom’s simulation runs automatically, displaying token approvals, price impacts, and account changes. It works for most Solana programs. Solflare’s simulation is similarly thorough, and it also shows you the exact accounts being modified. Both wallets are addressing the blind signing risk. Blind signing - signing a transaction without seeing its full effects - is dangerous, and both wallets reduce that risk.
Neither wallet eliminates all risk. New program types can bypass simulation. Always verify transaction details manually.

Priority fee settings and versioned transactions
Solana uses priority fees to get transactions confirmed faster. Both wallets let you set them.
Phantom offers a simple slider: low, medium, high. You can also set a custom priority fee in SOL or lamports, and the wallet estimates the fee needed based on network congestion.
Solflare gives you more control. You can set the compute unit limit and the priority fee separately, and you can see historical fee data. For advanced users, Solflare’s approach is better.
Versioned transactions are a Solana upgrade that allows more complex instructions. Both wallets support them and handle them transparently. You do not need to think about it.

Which wallet should you use?
Use Phantom if you care about clean design, swap tokens frequently, manage many NFTs, or stake occasionally.
Use Solflare if you stake from a Ledger, want fine control over transaction fees, run validators or manage multiple accounts, or want the most detailed staking interface.
Both wallets are secure, actively maintained, and free. The choice is about workflow, not safety.
You can also use both. Install Phantom for daily swaps and NFT browsing, and use Solflare for staking and hardware wallet management. The two wallets can share the same seed phrase. This is common among experienced Solana users.
Neither wallet is objectively better. Each serves a different primary use case. Pick the one that matches what you actually do on Solana.
